E. had a great time once again this year. To top things off a bunch of his band buddies from school also participated. 

Poppy was able to come over for the last night's concert and stay through Sunday. Auntie KT. also came up and stayed through Saturday's downtown concerts. Even in the midst of funeral planning Gramma and Grampa were able to come up for the last night's concert. What an awesome treat. 

But enough of this, let's get on with the Jazz.

"Sing, Sing, Sing" ...

After the concert we gather for some family photos.

Prior to Saturday's downtown concerts, Poppy wanted to see what Jazz notations looked like, and get a tutorial on how to read it. E. was happy to walk him through what some of the music looked like.

Then it was on to downtown for the concerts. ...

First on the agenda was E. playing with his Jazz Combo 3.

This year's Combo instructor was Mr. D. Here the two of them smile for the camera. Mr. M. from last year was here again and impressed with E.'s musical (and height) growth. E. had lessons from Mr. M. again. It is just so great to see these adults share their love of music with another generation.

Then it was off the the larger Jazz Band 2 performances. The Band Buddies still mess around while waiting their turn to play.

One of the fun things about the Pacific Northwest is realizing how small a community we really are. Two of Poppy's old work colleagues had a daughter that attended Jazz camp, too. She played in E.'s large Jazz Band (but not his smaller combo group). While waiting for the concert to begin, they had a chance to catch up.

So ends another great year of playing Jazz.

All three kids are eligible next year.

They can't wait!

Summer 2013: Part 2 - Jazz Camp

Prior to our going via Holland-America to Alaska, E really wanted to participate in Blaine's Jazz Festival and Camp. So, we registered him. E talked to his Band teacher who gave him some music. E practiced ... then we went to Alaska. We returned on Saturday, and Jazz Camp started Monday evening.

E had a wonderful time, learned tons, met new friends, and blew us away at what he was able to do by the end of the week.

Way to go, E!
